Her Story

25+ Years Serving Mobile County Students

Meika Gordon Gardner spent over 25 years with the Mobile County Public Schools as an educator and transition teacher, working alongside parents and administrators to construct individualized education plans designed to promote success for students served by transition services. Her dedication earned her the Transition Teacher of the Year award from the State of Alabama Governor's Council in 2015.

Beyond the classroom, Meika served as girls high school volleyball coach at Blount High School and Williamson High School, and spent three years as a middle school athletic director. Her commitment to student success extended to every corner of school life — academic, athletic, and personal.

In 2025, the AVCA Diversity Development Team recognized Meika with its prestigious Volleydictorian Award, honoring her storied career as an educator, teacher, coach, and mentor. As colleague Ann Schilling noted, Meika is "an incredible colleague — one that I immeasurably value for the path that she has embraced and the lives she has touched."
